When a spirit leaves the body and goes into the astral world or astral plane, the silver cord breaks and we find ourselves in a temporary stage of consciousness in our spirit. In Tibetan Buddhism the Bardo is a state of existence between death and rebirth, varying in length according to a person’s conduct in life and manner of, or age at, death. In some schools bardo is an intermediate or transitional state between death and rebirth.
